Tuesdays at the J is a group for individuals and couples ages 55-plus who meet weekly to enjoy presentations on a variety of topics. Past programs have included live musical performances by local musicians and art presentations by museum docents and artists, as well as presentations by authors and more. Rabbi Arthur Lavinsky is a retired pulpit rabbi and U.S. Navy chaplain who served his country and his people faithfully with distinction for nearly four decades. He held diverse pulpits from as far away as Stockholm, Sweden all the way to Phoenix, Arizona. Since retiring from the pulpit, he has served as a rabbi on cruise ships, conducting High Holiday services, Passover seders and Hanukkah and Shabbat services at multiple locations around the world. He’ll share his travel adventures during this presentation.
While in the Navy Reserve, Lieutenant Commander Lavinsky served Navy, Marine and Coast Guard personnel. With a reputation as a passionate and charismatic preacher and teacher, Rabbi Lavinsky is a respected Jewish scholar and compassionate pastor. Rabbi Lavinsky has published hundreds of articles on the weekly Torah portions and has been interviewed by multiple newspapers, television and radio stations on matters of Jewish tradition and Middle East affairs. An exemplary leader, he has served as president of and board member of a variety of several local and national organizations. He is married to Deborah, a certified Pilates instructor and resides in Phoenix.
