More than 100 Valley Christian High School students spent the morning of Sept. 7 working on several beautification projects on the EVJCC campus. In addition to removing gravel in preparation of pavers for the playground, the students painted the MPR, repainted parking lot stripes, painted outside the building and cleaned out storage sheds.
“We are excited to have this amazing partnership with the City of Chandler,”said Rabbi Michael Beyo, EVJCC CEO. “We appreciate that they put us in touch with Ruben Huntington at Oldcastle Precast, Steve Bishop of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Valley Christian High School and Resurrection Street Ministry.”
“This partnership between different cultural backgrounds and religious faiths is the strength of our community and highlights that our common goals and our shared values create strong, united communities.”
The effort, organized through the City of Chandler, was part of “Pancakes and Pavers,” a project that had nearly 500 students doing community service projects at AZCEND, the EVJCC, a Chandler senior center and Chandler public housing sites.
“We feel so incredibly lucky to be a part of this community event and we’re so amazed and overwhelmed with the generosity of our volunteers,” said Pam Morris, director of the EVJCC’s Early Childhood Learning Center. “I know the children of the ECLC will be so fortunate to have their refurbished playground.”
