The Center for Holocaust Education at the East Valley JCC invites the community to an evening of remembrance and reflection at the annual East Valley Yom Hashoah commemoration on Wednesday, April 23. The event will begin with a 5:30 p.m. reception, followed by a 6 p.m. program at the EVJCC, 908 N. Alma School Road, Chandler.

This year’s program will feature Holocaust survivor Charlotte Adelman. She was born in Paris, France, in 1932 and grew up in a loving Jewish household before the Nazi occupation changed her life forever. Fleeing for her safety multiple times between the ages of 10 and 14, her story is one of resilience, survival and hope. She will share her experience and sign copies of her new book, “Charlotte: A Holocaust Story of Strength, Courage and Hope,” co-written with Mala Blomquist.

The evening will also include a candle lighting ceremony; a short prayer service led by Rabbi Michael Beyo; and a special musical performance by pianist Hannah Creviston, “Voices Silenced: Music from the Holocaust.” Creviston, a clinical associate professor at Arizona State University, will perform a piece by composer James Simon, who was killed during the Holocaust. She will also sign copies of her newly released CD, “Reminiscences,” a collection of music and text from the Holocaust, in collaboration with her husband, saxophonist Christopher Creviston, and vocalist Amanda DeMaris.

Light refreshments will be served during the reception. The program is free; registration is required.
